2011 Favorites

Hi Friends

I know I’ve neglected the blog lately. I think the blog-world in general has been quiet due to the holidays. I’ve also had a bad cold that has zapped any energy I had (that hadn’t been devoted to Christmas activities).

Last year, I did a blog post (as did many others) featuring my top 10 of 2010, so I thought I’d do a top 11 for 2011. These are some of the cards that I’ve created that I liked the best.

I’ve linked up the original blog post to the photo if you want more info on the cards.

Lawnscaping Challenge

Hi Friends,

I hope you’re doing well. Things sure have been quiet here at the old blog. I hope to rectify that in the not too distant future, but with our vacation and Christmas planning, time has run out.

I have made a card for the new Lawnscaping challenge which is to use texture. Fun huh?!  You can use anything (ribbon, texture plates, embossing, etc!) that adds dimension/texture to your card.

DSC_0325

I used Quinn’s ABC’s to create the candy-cane letters. I colored them in with my Copics and then added some sparkle with Stickles.  It’s hard to see in the photo but the patterned paper is also glittery.

This challenge is sponsored by Lawn Fawn. The winner will receive a Lawn Fawn stamp set of your choice!

Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

All About Red Blog Hop

logobadge

Welcome to the second Lawnscaping blog hop.  This hop is all about red!  So all we needed to do was create a project with red in it, using Lawn Fawn stamps as a focal point. Super easy right, especially this time of year. You should be arriving from Tina M’s blog.

I was inspired by a coffee mug I have and this is what I created  (actually I created two projects):

Lawn Fawn and May Arts

Hi Friends,

The fun with Lawn Fawn and May Arts continues today!  May Arts ribbon is just so beautiful and high quality. I just love it, and I am so grateful that we’ve gotten the chance to play with it this week.

For today’s post, I had this idea in my head for awhile after seeing something similar in one of my cooking magazines, or books. I wanted to make a tree out of ribbon on a card, so this is what I came up with:

DSC_0283-1

I started out with a different design in mind, but this is how it ended up. I think it’s pretty fun.  In looking at it now with all the characters wearing scarves, I should’ve made the sentiment, “warm wishes” or something along those lines. Oh well, maybe next time.

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to head to the Lawn Fawn and May Arts blogs to have  a chance to win some fabby prizes.

Lawn Fawn + May Arts

Hi Friends

I’m so excited about this post and the pairing up of Lawn Fawn and May Arts.  I just LOVE ribbon, and when we got the chance to do this with May Arts, I was so excited.

The designers received a HUGE amount of ribbon from May Arts, they were seriously so generous.  I wanted to showcase as much of it as I could on my project, so here’s what I came up with:

DSC_0278

I took a tin that I bought at Michaels (you could use a soup can or whatever old tin, but I was lazy and didn’t want wash it all out).  So I used as much of the pretty May Arts ribbon that I could. I laid it on and arranged and rearranged the ribbon until I got it in an order I was satisfied with and then started attaching to the can.  I used red line tape. I started out with a glue gun, but it was bubbling up the ribbon.

I cannot locate the photos of the ribbon that are on the tin, but when I find them, I will link them up later.

Be sure to head to the Lawn Fawn blog for details on giveaways!

Thanksgiving Wishes

Hi Friends

I love seeing the long weekend in my sights!  Of course, tomorrow will be crazy busy but filled with fun and family.

In honor of the U.S. holiday, I thought I’d share a Thanksgiving card

DSC_0296

Isn’t the Lawn Fawn turkey just so cute?  I colored him with my Copics which is my favorite thing to do. Coloring is so therapeutic for me.  I curved the sentiment from Harvest Season to headline the card.  And I used some patterned paper from My Mind’s Eye “All Spice”.

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy Thanksgiving to my U.S. friends.

Lawnscaping Challenge #22

Hi All,
Happy Monday! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. It went by fast for me, as they all seem to. I'm looking forward to a short work week and to seeing our family on Thursday. I won't get into the mild stress I am feeling about getting the house in order and food prepared. It will all come together and be fine.

We're starting a new Lawnscaping challenge today. And it's another fun one, we are to create a papercrafting project inspired by this photo:

This challenge is sponsored by Lawn Fawn. The winner gets their choice of stamp set.
Here's the card I came up with:
One of my favorite people from church recently moved away, and I miss her a lot. I'm going to put this in the mail to her to let her know how much she means to me.

Thanks so much for all your sweet comments on the collaboration Laurel and I had last week. We had so much fun. We really want to do it again! I have picked a winner through random.org

This means that the sweet Brandi is the winner, she was the first comment on Day 2 of the collaboration week with Laurel. Brandi, shoot me an email and let me know what stamp set you would like and your address where I can send it. Congrats girl!

Thanks for stopping in today, I hope you play along with the Lawnscaping challenge.

Collaborating with Laurel

Hi Friends

I hope you’ve been enjoying your weekend.  Today is the last day of collaborating with Laurel (for this round anyway, we’ve already decided we want to do it again). We decided that we wanted to play with patterned paper today.  This is right up my alley, I love patterned paper (you may have noticed if you’ve visited my blog for any length of time, like more than once).

I decided to go with the pocket gift card holder (see this blog post for the first one).  I thought I’d show the steps to make the pocket card. I will do another step by step instruction to make the other card holder. (This is my first attempt at trying this, so be patient with me, I am still learning Photoshop and not good with it).

Step 1:

Get a square piece of paper. I used double-sided patterned paper from Stampin’ Up! You can always makes your own double-sided paper (my paper is 7 inches by 7 inches but you can vary the size depending on what you want to put in it)

step 1

Step 2:

Fold two corner to touch and score the fold

step2x

Step 3:

Fold a corner across

step3x

Step 4:

Fold the other corner across

step4x

Step 5:

Fold one layer from the top down to create a pocket

step5x

Step 6:

DECORATE!

DSC_0316

Please note that if you want to tie ribbon around it, I recommend using  drop of glue or small piece of tap because it slides due to the angle of the pocket.

I used Lawn Fawn’s  Making Frosty Friends, Ornate Ornaments, and Bow and Holly to decorate.

Be sure to go see what Laurel came up with. Remember to comment for a chance to win your choice of Lawn Fawn stamp set.

Saturday

Hi Friends

Just a quick post to let you know that tomorrow will be the last day of collaborating with Laurel, not today. She had another post to do, so we decided to wrap up our fun week tomorrow.

I will still be drawing for a winner of your choice of Lawn Fawn stamp set tomorrow night at 9:00p.m. EST.  So you have until then to comment.

For today, I thought I’d share a Thanksgiving card.  I’ve been posting so many Christmas cards, I thought it was important to remember Thanksgiving.

I have so much to be Thankful for. Sometimes, I am overwhelmed by the grace that God has shown me.  I need to be more continually grateful and acknowledge my Heavenly Father for His blessings.  The greatest gift being salvation through Jesus Christ, and I praise Him for His sacrifice for me and my sins.

Now, onto today’s card:

t

I wanted to put the pilgrim hat on the pumpkin for awhile, and this is how I made it work out. I used Lawn Fawn’s Harvest Season and Hat’s off to you.

Have a great day, and be sure to come back for tomorrow’s collaboration post.

Friday, November 18, 2011

Hi!

I hope you are having as much fun with our collaboration week as Laurel and I are. I had no clue how much this would be. Today’s project is to use the colors: Kraft, white, teal/robin’s egg blue, and red.

This started out as a big challenge for me. Sometimes, I can run with color challenges, and others, I hit a wall. It finally came together in my head, and this is what I came up with:

I adore the little birds from the Lawn Fawn Making Frosty Friends stamp set, so I decided to use them. I used the snowflakes from the the same set, and the sentiment came from Bows and Holly. You might be able to see a little of the sparkle. I added some to their scarves and to the centers of the snowflakes. I pleated the ribbon and added a couple of gemstones.

I also used my 1/8 corner rounder and I love it!

Thanks for stopping in, be sure to head to Laurel’s blog to see her creation. Remember to comment for a chance to win your choice of Lawn Fawn stamp. I will draw a winner Sunday night (9:00 p.m. EST) and post it on Monday.

Have a great day and wonderful weekend. (We do have another post on Saturday which will wrap up the collaboration week).

Day 3 of collaborating with Laurel

Hi Friends

So Laurel and I are having so much doing this collaboration week.  For today’s post, we’re featuring one of Laurel’s favorite techniques… distressing. I love distressing too, I just have a lot to learn on all the options with the technique.

You do remember that I’m giving a way a Lawn Fawn set to someone who comments this week?  I’d sure love to give you the Lawn Fawn set of your choice.

Onto today’s card:

DSC_02860

I used Lawn Fawn’s Critters in the Snow for this card.  I made my own snow globe by embossing snowflakes in white then distressing over them with Ranger Broken China distress ink and punching it out with a large circle punch. Then I made the stand part of the snow globe by embossing a piece of kraft card stock with wood grain.  Then I distressed it with Antique Linen, Tea dye, and a little Walnut stain. I attached the snow to the circle then the wood grain stand. Next I added the critters and the twine.  Lastly I added a couple gems for sparkle.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Laurel’s blog to see her creation.

Partnering with Laurel Day 2

Hi Friends,

Happy Wednesday, and thanks for stopping by on Day 2 of Laurel and I collaborating.  She is such a dear friend, and this is so much fun!

Did I mention that I’m going to give away a Lawn Fawn set to one lucky commenter this week?? So be sure to leave your comments.  (U.S. or Canada only please, sorry).

So for today’s partnership day, we decided to use the same set. Laurel picked the set and chose:  Lawn Fawn’s Cozy Christmas. Here’s an image of the adorable set:

 cozy christmas product image

And here’s my card:

DSC_0280

I hope you like it. I had to add in the cat from Critters in the Burbs and the mouse from Critters on the Farm.  I thought later that I should’ve made a sentiment “not a creature was stirring…” Maybe another card will be in the works incorporating this thought..heehehe

Now, head over to Laurel’s blog. I’ve not seen her creation yet, so I’m excited to see what she’s come up with!

Have a blessed day

Partnering with Laurel day 1

Hi Friends,

I hope you’re having a good week so far. My sweet friend, Laurel Beard, and I have seen all these blog partner posts and decided that we wanted to get in on the fun!  So today is the first day of our joint post.  Our them today is to CASE each other.

I decided to CASE this card of Laurel’s:

Here’s my take on her inspiration:

DSC_0278

I showed this to my husband, and he said “wow, that’s a big raccoon.”  Maybe it’s a little out of proportion?  Oh well, I hope you still find it fun.

I’ve decided to do a fun little give away for this week. All you have to do is comment for a chance to win a Lawn Fawn set of stamps of your choice.

Thanks for stopping by.

A Very Fawny Holiday

Hi Friends,

The Holiday Inspiration week continues at the Lawn Fawn Blog. Today, the sets featured are Ornate Ornaments and Critters in the Snow.  So in honor of a Very Fawny Holiday, here’s what I came up with:

DSC_0279

This is a card that I’ve had in my mind for a long time.  Sometimes I get ideas when I’m out walking (my exercise of choice), and then I have to really focus so that I don’t forget the idea. (I usually, well, in fact, I never carry a sketchpad when I’m out walking).  So I had this idea in my mind after a walk one day.  I actually made 3 different versions of it, and this is my favorite.

I used several sets from Lawn Fawn.  I just love the dear from Critters in the Snow and putting a scarf (from Winter Bunny) just seemed to work so well. I embossed the snowflakes in white (from the Critters in the Snow set) and then distressed with Ranger Broken China Distress ink.  The trees from Critters in the Forest were actually stamped on green paper and accents added with my Copics.  The sentiment came from Bows and Holy.  (I’ve said it before and will likely say it again, I love how easy it is to combine various Lawn Fawn sets.) I added some Crystal stickles to the snowy ground, parts of the tree and centers of snowflakes for a little sparkle.  I did spritz the background with shimmer, but it’s impossible to capture in my limited photography skills.

If you haven’t yet, head over the Lawn Fawn blog to see the other samples for the design team. It’s sure to put you in the holiday mood (it is a little tough here, the temps were around 70 today!)

Lawn Fawn Holiday Inspiration Week

Hi Friends,

This week is a fun week for the Lawn Fawn team. We’re doing a Holiday Inspiration week to get you motivated to start on your Christmas cards and projects. Today, Winter Fox and Winter Bunny are being featured. I have projects for both stamp sets!

First up, Winter Bunny

DSC_0281

I wanted to make a shaker card, and I decided Winter Bunny was perfect for this card. The little beads add such a cool effect. This card will be perfect for a child.

ETA: If you want to know how to make a shaker card, the amazing Debbie Olson has an excellent tutorial here.

Next, a couple of gift card holders using Winter Fox

DSC_0307DSC_0295

This sweet little fox with her cup of cocoa or coffee just made me think it would make the perfect gift card holders. I have many friends who can’t live without their Starbucks, so these are going to come in handy.

(Patterned paper in first card holder is from Collage Press, and in second card holder is My Mind’s Eye).

Let me know if you’d be interested in instructions for making any of these projects. I’m not a videographer like many of the talented bloggers out there, but I could make some step by step photo instructions for you.

Have a great day! Thanks for stopping by. If you haven’t already, head over to the Lawn Fawn blog to see the other projects and for a giveaway!

Lawnscaping Challenge #21

challenge21thanksbadge

Hi Friends,

It’s time for another Lawnscaping challenge. The theme this time is to make a “thank you” card. We are sponsored this time by the amazing Simon Says Stamp.

SimonSaysStampBlinkie1

They are offering a $25 gift card to the winner of the challenge.

With Christmas coming fast, I decided to make a thank you card with that in mind. We are so blessed with generous family and friends that we will be needing some thank you cards.

DSC_0278

I thought this would be a fun card to send. It’s really bright and cheery. I used Lawn Fawn sets: Quinn’s ABCs, Ornate Ornaments, and Pa-Rum-Pa-Pum-Pum. I am still using up my Collage Press Paper.

This will be a good week to visit the Lawn Fawn blog because there will be loads of Holiday inspiration to get you in the mood for getting your Christmas projects going!

I hope you decide to play along with the Lawnscaping Challenge. I look forward to seeing your fabulous creations!

Hugs and blessings!

Cards that Care Blog Hop

Hi Friends

I cannot believe I’ve not posted all week. Wow, I’ve been a bad blogger. Well, I’m excited to be posting today and be part of the Cards that Care blog hop. The super sweet and talented Vera put this together with the wonderful Jennifer McGuire. They are organizing a holiday card drive to take to nursing homes. Isn’t that just the sweetest idea? I am so honored to help with this effort.

In honor of this card drive, they’ve put together this Cards that Care blog hop to spur interest and give away some prizes. There are all kinds of talented designers who will be showcasing some beautiful projects. If you’ve been hopping along, you should’ve arrived from my wonderful and talented friend, Laurel. If you’ve just arrived, head on over to Vera’s blog to start at the beginning.

Now, here’s the card I created for the hop:

DSC_0284

I broke out some Lawn Fawn stamps for this card. I used Making Frosty Friends, Hats off to You, and Cozy Christmas. I put it with some Collage Press patterned paper. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but on the white fur of the hat, I used some fun flock.

Now, I mentioned prizes before? All you have to do is comment on the blogs participating in the hop and random winners will be drawn. Interested in some of the goodies up for grabs? How about:

Avocado Arts, Lawn Fawn, Hero Arts, Jennifer McGuire (A spot in her upcoming Holiday Boot camp class), Mami Doodles, May Arts, Penny Black, and Monika Wright’s I Love it All. Some pretty good stuff! Vera’s blog has all the details of the prizes.

Next up on the hop is the amazing Melania Deasy

Have fun, good luck, and have a great weekend.

More Halloween Fun

Hi Friends

Thought I’d share another Halloween card today.

This post is going to be brief, I’m not feeing too great or chatty.  But I do hope you enjoy the card.

DSC_0286

I’ve used Lawn Fawn’s Happy Haunting stamp set which is just so fun for Halloween.  Today, I used more traditional Halloween colors.

I thought I’d enter this into a couple of challenges that it qualifies for:  Lily Pads challenge which is a sketch challenge and this is the sketch:

10-11-DN-810x1024

And I thought I’d submit it for the current Wee Memories challenge which is a “free-for-all.”

Thanks for stopping by friends

Happy Haunting

Hi Friends!

I hope your week has gotten off to a great start.

My week is shaping up to be quite busy, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to spend too much time in the craft room at night (boo).  But most of the stuff I have going on is fun, so I cannot complain too much.

I thought I’d share a Halloween card today since it’s the season right now.

DSC_0286

Again, I made this for a sketch challenge a couple of weeks ago and didn’t get it posted in time. Oh well, I have a Halloween card made to send out.

I used the super fun My Mind’s Eye paper (Mischievous) with Lawn Fawn’s Happy Haunting.

Thanks for stopping in today!
