Everything but the Kitchen Sink 20

Hi There!

I hope your week has gone well. It’s time for another Everything but the Kitchen Sink Around the House Challenge. Courtney is the host this month, and she’s given us a great item (or items) to work with… BUTTONS!

EBTKS Challenge 20

Not only do we have a fun item to work with, but we have an AMAZING sponsor. Simon Says Stamp is sponsoring this challenge.

simonstoreheidi

Now, when Courtney initiated the challenge, her intent was for us to use stray buttons we have around the house. Well, I kind of bent that rule (Sorry Court)… Mainly because I didn’t read the details of her message (I was so excited to see buttons as our item), and also, we really do not have buttons around the house. I’d remake my item except for the fact that I’m out of time.

ANYWAY, I digress. For my example I really wanted to showcase the buttons by making them central to my design. I also needed to make a gift bag and card, so I decided to combine the two (love when I can do that).

DSC_0082

That bag is just a plain old lunch bag with some Bo-Bunny paper and Studio Calico buttons. I used Lawn Fawn’s Judy’s blooms to make the paper pieced flower. I did a couple of them, cut them out and layered for dimension. I did scallop the top which I think is a nice little touch and makes it go nicely with the scalloped flower card. I made the card by using the largest Spellbinder large scalloped circles for a card base and then again with patterned paper. I arranged the buttons, added some hand cut leaves, a sentiment and a little butterfly just for fun :)

So when you participate, use up those stray buttons you have around the house. We cannot wait to see what you come up with.

Last day of work week!!! YAY

Hi Friends,

Today is my last day of work for this week. I’m so excited. Wednesday morning, I’m getting up early and heading to Rosemont Illinois to my first CHA. I will get to meet the Lawn Fawn attendees in person, and so many other friends I’ve met through this blog. I am just so excited about it! I also get to see my friend Demaree and her daughter, which just adds to my excitement!

DSC_0041

I made this card awhile back. I just love that chandelier from the Lawn Fawn How Delightful set. Adding the gemstones to the chandelier gives it a nice little bling, I think :)

Sorry for the short post, but I’ve got more to check off my list. If you have questions about how I made this, just shoot me a note, and I’m happy to respond.

Thanks for stopping by

Short week

Hi Friends,

As you know I’m headed up to Chicago for CHA and to visit my best friend. What a great week to look forward to. I’ll also be meeting in real life some of my long time blogging friends, and to say I’m excited, would be an understatement.

I plan to schedule some posts this week, and I’d like to try and blog while I’m up there. No promises though. I will bring back piccies to share if I don’t post any while I’m there.

DSC_0153

Today’s card uses two Lawn Fawn sets… Partly Cloudy and Harold’s ABCs. I just love customizing the sentiment with these letters. These stamps make it so easy to do:) The umbrella is embossed with clear embossing powder to add some texture and sturdiness since I was cutting it out. (I know it’s hard to tell in the photo).

Thanks for stopping by today!

Friend

Hi Friends

Happy Thursday!  So happy tomorrow is Friday.  I love the weekend, and next week is a short week for me. I am SO excited to go to CHA and meet so many people. I also get to see my best friend (who lives outside Chicago), so there’s a lot for me to be excited about.  Of course, I will be missing my sweet hubby and four-legged furry kids.  That just makes it nice to come home!

So in honor of friends today, I’m sharing a card celebrating friendship.  I stamped the sentiments repeatedly on the Melon cardstock, cut out with my Sizzix topnote die, tied some ribbon around it, adhered some buttons and then added the thickers.  Really a pretty quick card.  Hope you like!

Lots of Hugs

Hi Dear Friends,

Thanks for stopping by. I don’t know if I convey it enough, but I really appreciate you visiting and commenting. It really brightens my day.

Lately, I’ve been neglecting my blog reading and commenting, but I will get caught up.  So if you’ve not heard from me, I promise I’ll be stopping by soon.  Life has been kind of hectic lately, and quite honestly, I’ve gotten stressed out.  I’m grateful that I’ve been in a position to sit back, relax and just spend time with my hubby watching old seasons of Lost (shhhh, no spoilers please—we’re on Season 2).

Anyway, I digress. Today’s card was one I made for a recent pub call that didn’t get picked up which is okay. I know I will use this card at some point. The sentiment is so versatile that I will have no problem finding a recipient.

See those big flowers… yep, those are from the Lawn Fawn Judy’s Blooms.  These flowers are so fun and are great for putting together a quick and cute card!

Tuesday

Hi There Friends

Pardon my lack of creative titles…. truly my creative juices just aren’t flowing (and I struggle with titles of blog posts anyway).

Today’s card(s) are for a dear friend’s daughter’s 1st birthday party.  She asked me to do the invites, and, of course, I jumped at the chance. I’ve done some evaluating lately and realized that if I’m not making cards for people I care about, then I’m missing the point.  So anyway, here are some shots of the cards.

Group shot of the cards (over 20)

And a closer up look:

DSC_0083

These were super easy to make. I used Lawn Fawn’s Bake me a Cake set, and the Just my Type Too  and curved the sentiment.  I used an EK success punch to do the bottom of the cupcake out of the Cosmo Cricket DeLovely paper.  I added a gemstone on top to add a little bling.

Thanks for stopping by…Hope you are having a blessed week.

Monday

Hi there!

I hope your week is off to a good start.  Are you surviving the heat?  It’s been so hot and muggy here in Indianapolis, but I know most of the country is feeling the heat wave.

So, today’s card is a super simple card.  I used the new Lawn Fawn Judy’s blooms, and the sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Just my Type Too.  I colored the flower in with my Copics, rounded the corners and added some Mark Richards Gems. Super easy, but I like it!  (I’m still developing my clean and simple style).  Hope you  like it.

So who’s going to CHA next week? I’ll be there for better part of the week, and I’d love to meet some of my blogging buddies if you’re going to be there.

Be sure to stop by the EBTKS blog and play along with our current sketch challenge. Cupcards to go is sponsoring it and is offering up a great prize to the winner!

Thanks for stopping in today.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink challenge 19

Hi Friends

It's the 15th of the month, and you know what that means?? (Payday for some of us, but that's not where I'm going...) It's time for another EBTKS sketch challenge. This time I got to host the challenge, and here's the sketch

This is what the sketch is based off of:

This is my favorite print we have in our house. It was actually a gift I gave to Carlin for our first Christmas as a married couple. He had mentioned before we got married that we should get a print with this verse (Joshua 24:15) for our home. I kept that in the back of my mind, and I came across this and snatched it up. I guess it was really a present for both of us, but nonetheless, we both love it. I thought it made a nice sketch for our challenge too.

Here's the card I came up with using this as my inspiration:

All of the supplies except for the sentiment which is from Lawn Fawn's Just my Type too set, is from a Cupcards to go kit. Fun, huh? Well, this is just a small taste of what came in my kit, and guess what??? The winner of this EBTKS challenge wins a Cupcards to go kit!! Yay!

Lawn Fawn goodness

Hi Friends

EDTA: Moxie Fab blog is having challenges based on style this week. I decided to play along and uploaded this one into the clean and graphic category... Wasn't sure whether to go with clean and graphic or fun and cute. You should go check it out and give it a try!

I hope your week is off to a great start. Did you all have good weekend? Ours was very nice and quite busy! We had a wedding to go to on Saturday which I actually helped out as a wedding coordinator. (Or my best impression of a wedding coordinator). Since it was a family from our church, we were so blessed to be there and be part of it. It made me very nostalgic for our wedding which was nice. It was such a blessing.

Since the weekend was so busy, I haven’t made much new stuff lately, but I do have some Lawn Fawn to share with you.

DSC_0037

This is a simple little card where I just scalloped some paper to mimic waves. I colored the dolphin with my copics (C00, C-1) and cut him out, attached him to the card and done. (Sorry I do not remember the patterned paper right now, but I’ll edit this post if I come across it).

Thanks for stopping in today. Be sure to remember the EBTKS challenge that begins on the 15th, we’ve got a really cool sponsor. You’re going to want to join in for sure

Lawn Fawn Preview day 2

Hi Friends,

So what did you think of all the awesome samples from the new Lawn Fawn set “Swimsuit Season?” Today we’re featuring samples from another new set releasing on Thursday called “Judy’s Blooms.” And I think you’re going to like it as well. It features three large blooms that are great for scrapbooking and cards. I’m still on the quest to improve my clean and simple card-making skills, and this set makes the task SO much easier.

Here’s my sample:

DSC_0121

I did some masking with these. The flowers are embossed with Zing embossing powder. Of course, I had to add some gems just to have a little something extra. And yes, I did add ribbon. I couldn’t help myself!

Be sure to go check out the other samples from the design team at the Lawn Fawn blog.

I've decided to do something fun for you who leave comments here on my blog (because I love hearing from you.) If you leave a comment on any of my posts this week (Monday to Friday), I'm going to pick a random winner who will win a Lawn Fawn stamp set of your choice. Good luck and thanks for visiting!

Lawn Fawn Summery Fun

Hi All,

It’s time for the July Lawn Fawn release! I know I say this every month, but you are going to love these sets so much. Today’s set captures summery fun. It’s full of summer images that I know you’re going to love.

Here’s my card for today’s preview from the set, “Swimsuit Season".
DSC_0100

I wanted to do a card with a cut out peep hole, so I decided to with this card.

DSC_0098

Here’s a close up of the peep hole.

Be sure to check out the Lawn Fawn Blog for more sneaky peeks. I know the designers have created a lot of summer fun:)

Be sure to check back tomorrow for the next preview. It’s another fun set.

Patriotic Birthday

Hi Friends

I know I just posted, but I realized I needed a birthday card for Sunday (our Pastor turns 40). I decided to use the sketch at Taylored Expressions  and the weekly CARDS blog challenge (for patriotic themed cards) to formulate my card.

Here’s what I came up with…

TEsketchjuly2

I decided to use this cute Hero Arts stamp set when I saw the balloon had stars in it. How perfect!  You can see a little of the gloss in the photo, I used Stampin’ Ups! Crystal effects. I think it gives it the feel of an actual balloon. I need something along the bottom of the card but didn’t want to use ribbon or scallops since the card is for a man.  Thus I decided on the button row which were weaved together using DMC floss. It’s the first time I’ve used this on a card, but I like it and will probably go back to it again!

Also, remember we have another EBTKS challenge ongoing… to use aluminum foil.  (In hindsight I’m thinking that foil would’ve worked really well with stars in honor of the holiday…hmmm)

AND, the Lawn Fawn monthly reveal starts next week, and again, there are some great new sets coming out, you won’t want to miss it!

Long Weekend bliss

HI Friends

To all my fellow U.S. citizens, Happy Independence Day weekend.  I’m officially on long weekend time. I’m taking Friday off and have Monday off, so 4 day weekend here I come:)

Today’s card uses the Hero Arts Beautiful Peacocks set which I love.  I love the coloring and adding the gems to the feathers is so much fun.

DSC_0048

So do you have any exciting plans for this weekend? Barbecues? Fireworks?  Do you have a long weekend in store? We are having some repairs done to the house on Friday, and other than that, nothing too structured yet.  It’s supposed to be hot again (after a wonderful 3 days of absolutely perfect weather!)

I wish you all a very safe and blessed weekend.  Whatever your plans, be safe and enjoy!

Hugs and blessings
