Ouch

Hi Folks

Just a quick post today. I’ve been battling some sort of bug lately. I’ve had a fever off and on since Saturday night, been in bed by 8:30 (except for last night which a bit later due to us getting Lost Season 6).

Anyway, I made this card last week for a co-worker who was in a bicycling accident. Fortunately, she has a great sense of humor and took our joke in great stride.  This card came with a bike helmet, training wheels, a first aid kit, etc….

DSC_0012

I used a lot of Cosmo Cricket Paper and then also the chipboard stickers.  Thus, this card came together very quickly.

Here’s a shot of the sentiment on the inside of the card

DSC_0014 Not the best photo but you get the idea.  She got a kick out of it, so that was the important thing.

I used Harold’s ABC’s from Lawn Fawn to make the sentiments.  These letters are so easy to work with to customize your sentiment. I’ve said it before, but they line up so easily, that it’s a snap to make your own sentiments or journal.

Have a great day friends, I’m off to lay down

Everything But the Kitchen Sink Challenge

Hi Friends

It’s time for another Everything but the Kitchen Sink challenge.  It’s another around the house challenge. This time Winter is hosting, and she’s chosen hair items. These can be anything you have to put in your hair… Go crazy with this one.  Here’s what I came up with:

DSC_0020

I broke apart a barrett to get this single flower to add to the bow on my card.  It has a little gem in it too which I like.

Our sponsor this time is Some Odd Girl, read below for a little more about this company:

smallbanner

Some Odd Girl is the place to find fun and quirky digis that I know you will love! Some Odd Girl was inspired by two great friends who are such dolls! They took one of my pencil drawings and made it into red rubber and that act of generosity spiraled into what you see today. I am a married FTWM of 2 who has a hubby who not only loves me but supports my crafting and my site as my IT guy. What more could a girl want? I am an artist born who started out with pencils then acrylics and now scrapbook and am a card-maker. I design things that I love and hope you have as much fun with our stamps as we do!  Join us on September 21 for the release of our new Tinies line and don't forget about our monthly freebies and SOG Points program.

She’s giving away three digi images to the winner of the challenge. You should go to check out her store, there are lots of cute images to choose from.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with on this challenge.

Off the Wall Craftiness

Hi Friends!

Today, I have some fun news to share. Sweet Kim from Off the Wall Craftiness invited me to be on her newly formed design team.

I always enjoy playing along in her challenges.  She has such fun colors in her weekly challenges that I just love.  Let’s take for instance, this week’s colors

inspirationBoard_08

inspirationpinkblkgreen

So bold, bright and FUN, right??!!!  I love these colors.

For my card, I tried to stay consistent with the theme of the photos ( you do not have to do that, I just used all of it as inspiration).  And here’s what I came up with.

DSC_00022

I dry embossed the black panel, ruffled the ribbon with red line tape on the backside of the paper. Then I mounted the entire panel using foam dots (this is necessary since the ribbon really elevates the piece).  I stamped the chandelier from Lawn Fawn’s  “How Delightful” in versamark and embossed it with black embossing powder, and punched it out with a circle punch.  Next, I arranged and attached some buttons, the chandelier, and stamped the sentiment.  At this point, the card looked to blah for me, so I blinged it up by adding some gems and a little bow on top of the chandelier.

Before I forget, of course, Kim has a great sponsor for the challenge this week!  Scrolls Work is offering an assortment of rubber stamps!  That’s right free rubber! Woohoo!

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you decide to play along.  Can’t wait to see what you do with these fun colors.  I will be using them again, I’m sure!

You’re So Special

Hi Friends!

I hope you had a fabulous weekend!  It’s amazing how quickly they fly by, isn’t it?

Today’s post is going to be short and sweet.  I had terrible insomnia last night and can barely stay awake now. I hope that’s going to translate into a good night’s rest!

I have to say that I made this card awhile back. I cannot remember if I posted it or not. I definitely need to work on my photo folder system.  So if you’ve seen it before….sorry :)

This was a quick and easy card to make. Using patterned paper can really simplify the card-making process when you just need a card in a pinch.

Thanks for stopping by.

Friday Randomness

Hi Friends

Happy Friday!  I want to thank you all for your great response to the Lawn Fawn Cards for Kids Drive.  The response was great, and I am so grateful for your sweet comments.  I am way behind on reading and commenting on blogs, but I plan to do some catching up this weekend.  I just love seeing what my blogging friends are creating. I know I’ll be inspired.

Today I thought I’d share a couple of things. First, a friend of mine had me make her daughter’s birthday invitations and decorations for her cupcakes. You can see the invites here.  Today, I thought I’d share what the cupcake toppers looked like on the cupcakes.

44867_10150256326685093_561450092_14293689_6296008_n

The second thing I want to share is a card that I made for the CARDS Create blog.

DSC_0017-2_edited-1

I was elated that I was asked to be the CARDS August Designer of the Month awhile back. CARDS is a wonderful, inspiring publication.  It was the first magazine in which I had anything published, so this was really special for me.  Northridge publishing has a blog called Create for their various publications, and they have a feature for their monthly designer. For August, that included me.  You can find the interview and post here.

I almost didn’t post about this because I do not want to sound like I am bragging.  I am really still in a state of disbelief, I cannot believe they asked me.  I do want to encourage any of you who are interested in being published to go for it.

As you can tell from the card above, it is filled with Lawn Fawn goodness.  I used Critters in the Burbs, Petite Florals, How Delightful and Partly Cloudy to make it.  It is not a card that you could easily mass produce. There was a lot of coloring, cutting and embossing on it.  I just had a good time playing and went with it.  I wanted a fun scene, and this is the result.  All the instructions and supplies for the card are detailed on the Create Blog.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

Off the Wall Craftiness

plum-1

Hi Friends,

Is this a pretty photograph or what? I normally don’t like purple that much, but paired with the aqua, it’s so pretty. This is the latest inspiration from Off the Wall Craftiness challenge. Kim does such a wonderful job pulling the colors together.

Here’s my take on the challenge…

Lawn Fawn Loves Cards for Kids

LFcardsForKids

Hi All

Today’s post is for a very special cause. Welcome to the Lawn Fawn Hearts Cards for Kids Blog Hop! We have all come together today to make cards for a wonderful cause, Cards for Kids! We hope to encourage you to also make cards for this great cause and to have some fun along the way! So please hop along with us, and make sure to leave comments as there will be prizes for commenters and participants! So let's get going! If you've been following the blog hop, you should be arriving from Linda's blog. If you get lost in the hop, you can always start at the beginning at the Lawn Fawn blog. Thank you so much for hopping along with us today!

DSC_0072

Using Lawn Fawn stamps is not mandatory to play along. (Of course Lawn Fawn does have some fabulous images that kids love...so they do fit in nicely). The most important thing is to have fun and to create some fun cards for kids. You can see that I chose to use a couple sets of Lawn Fawn stamps… (Critters in the Sea, Bannerific) and also some Hero Arts stamps (the clouds which were in the princess set)

I also used this week's sketch from 2 Sketches for You as a basis for the layout of this card.

I did shift the sentiment box a little.

And just because I think a polka-dotted whale is so fun, here’s a close up of this little sea critter :)

Your next stop on the hop is Kathy. Please play along, there are some great prizes. Most importantly, these cards are going to some kids and their families.

Thanks for hopping by.

Play Date Cafe

Hi Friends

I hope your week is off to a great start!  Today was a gorgeous day in Indianapolis.  Wow, it was awesome. It’s been so terribly hot this summer that it’s been intolerable to be outside.  So this was a very sweet reprieve.  We’re really hoping the weather continues like this for awhile.

I’ve been wanting to participate in the Play Date Cafe challenge for awhile and not had the opportunity.  So I’m really happy that I was able to play along this week.

Here’s the inspiration photo:PDCC42

And here’s my take on the challenge:

DSC_0085

I did something a little different with Lawn Fawn’s  Judy’s blooms this time. I stamped the flower on cream and shaded with my copics to add some depth.  I stamped it twice and cut them out and glued petals on top of the base flower to add dimension.  Then I added some Basic Grey pearls.  The crinkled ribbon was originally vanilla colored, and I used glimmer mist to die it. Then I crinkled it on red line tape.  I just love the look.

Thanks for stopping by

Hi Friends,

It’s time for another EBTKS challenge.  This time it’s a sketch challenge hosted by Kelly Marie.  Her inspiration was her washing machine. This is what her sketch looks like:

I admit I went a little crazy with the sketch.  I just was playing, having fun and just went with it :)  There are lots of options with this sketch, so I am certain we’re going to see some masterpieces based on this one!

WINNER

Hi Folks

I know I said I'd do the giveaway on Monday but decided to go ahead and post it today. I hope there's no confusion :) Plus, it's always fun to find out exciting news.

Anyway, there were 60 total comments during the week, and I asked my hubby to come up with a number between 1 and 60. The number he picked was "27" which equates to Karen Baker!!! Karen has always been such a sweet commenter, and has a fabulous blog herself!

Thanks Karen for always leaving me such nice comments. Please shoot me an email with your address and most importantly which Lawn Fawn Stamp set from this release you'd like :)

Thanks again all for playing, I plan to keep doing this, so there will be more chances to win in the future!

Happy Friday

Hi Dear Friends

Looks like we’ve nearly made it through another week (and a hot one for most of the country from what I understand).  Do you have exciting weekend plans?  I’d love to hear about them.

We don’t appear to have much on the agenda this weekend.  We are teaching children’s church on Sunday and have a meeting about that afterwards. Teaching the kids is so much fun. I say this in full confession that Carlin does most of the teaching. I do a little review piece and then listen and get taught myself!  Pure joy! These kids are a blast!

Anyway, today’s card is showing another use for the Lawn Fawn Set “Bannerific” which I’m told has sold out but new ones will be in soon.  I also used Harold’s ABCs to fill in the pennants.

DSC_0182

This is in honor of preseason football kicking off this weekend. Our Colts play the San Francisco 49ers. Now, preseason football doesn’t matter, but it does mean that the real stuff is in view!  I love football and cannot wait for it to start.

Back to the card, I think something like this would be great to send out for a football party invite!  I would make it a little differently next time because the horseshoes in the banner around “Go” seemed to confuse things. Also, I would use all "capitol letters in Colts so that it was clear that the “l” is not an “i” .  At any rate, you get an idea.

One last plug, today is your last chance to comment for a chance to win one of the new Lawn Fawn Sets.  Feel free to go back and comment on earlier posts if you haven’t already.  Comments after 11:59 tonight won’t be considered in the drawing for the winner. I’ll probably post the winner on Monday since the blogging world seems to get very quiet on weekends.

Best of luck all

Hugs and blessings

Off the Wall Craftiness and Wee Memories

Hi Friends,

I hope you’ve gone to see the full sets of the new Lawn Fawn sets! They are so much fun I know you’re going to love them.

So lately I’ve not played in some of my favorite challenges, and I’m determined to fix that! Today’s card is for the fun challenge that Kim runs at Off the Wall Craftiness. The challenge was to use the colors light yellow, light green, and light pink. And, I this card fits the Wee Memories Challenge to use butterflies on a card! So it's a two for one! Love that.

Here’s my card:

6a00d8341c64e753ef0120a87022bb970b-450wi

It’s a pretty simple card. I just stamped the background on the lemon cardstock, cut a strip of the green, stamped the sentiment, tied a ribbon around it. Then I stamped and colored a butterfly, cut it out, and applied a little bling on the wing, and glued the center down so that the wings would pop off the page. I also drew on the antennae because the others that were stamped were amputated in the cutting process;) I have a friend who was recently in a car accident who will be getting this card.

Oh, and notice that sentiment… it’s from the new Lawn Fawn set, Sophie’s sentiments.

Thanks for stopping by and remember keep commenting thru Friday for your chance to win one of the Lawn Fawn new releases :)

Hugs and blessings.

Heebie Jeebies

Hi Friends,

Today is the last day of the previews for the new Lawn Fawn sets. And we’re previewing the Halloween set, Heebie Jeebies. It is so CUTE. It comes with a spider web, spider, a couple of bats ande a “boo” sentiment. I really think you’re going to like it.

I wanted to make a little gift package set to preview, and this is what I came up with.

DSC_0079

I made the french fry box using a pattern from Splitcoast Stampers. I decorated the box and mini card with patterned paper and stamps from Heebie Jeebies. I know purple and green bats, who would’ve thought?? Sometimes in card world, I have to force myself not to be too literal and run with the imagination :)

Speaking of those bats, is it me, or do they seem to have a gentle look on their faces? I have never liked bats. When I was growing up, there was one who nested in a light post on our street. It would on occasion dive bomb us, so I developed a healthy fear of them. Well, not the Lawn Fawn bats, I think they are adorable!

Be sure to stop by the Lawn Fawn blog to see what the other design team members have come up with!

Hugs and blessings,

Nette

Lawn Fawn August Release Day 2

Hi Friends,

So what do you think of the Lawn Fawn previews so far? Personally, I think these sets are lots of fun and have so many options with them. So much so, we are doing a second day with Sophie’s Sentiments and Bannerific.

Here’s my sample:

DSC_0121

One of the many things I love about Lawn Fawn stamps is that they are awesome for paper piecing! For today’s card, I wanted to go with a totally different feel (and different stamps). I’ve had this Basic Grey Olivia paper for awhile now, and decided that it was time to break it out. Each of the pennants are paper pieced with different pages from the Olivia paper. The background panel is also from Olivia as is the bottom strip.

I just love these pennants, they are so unique. Pennants are all the rage right now, and I love the Lawn Fawn take on them! Totally fun, huh? Sophie’s Sentiments is full of useful sentiments that I will go to over and over.

Now, remember to leave a comment to be entered into the drawing for a free Lawn Fawn stamp set to be picked on Saturday. (Yes, you can enter daily throughout the week, increasing your chances to win). And… check out the Lawn Fawn blog to see the other designers’ amazing creations (and a chance at another give away!)

As always, thanks for stopping by. Hugs and blessings
